They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

If that's true, Kansas football deserves some credit for its optimism.

Ten meetings with Baylor since 2014. Ten straight losses. And somehow, Kansas keeps coming back for more.

And Baylor hasn't just been winning. It's been winning comfortably.

Across those 10 meetings, Baylor has outscored Kansas 472-111, winning by an average of 36.1 points. The closest contest came in 2022, when the Jayhawks fell by 12. Every other meeting has ended with an even wider margin.

On Saturday, Kansas gets another opportunity to reverse the trend. But while history offers little encouragement, the numbers from 2026 tell a more complicated story.

Through six games, Baylor sits at 4-2 while Kansas is 2-4. Yet despite the difference in records, the Jayhawks actually hold a slight offensive advantage, averaging 32 points per game to Baylor's 30.

But a closer look makes that advantage considerably less convincing.

Kansas scored 106 of its 192 points in just two games, against Long Island University and Middle Tennessee. Against its four other opponents, the Jayhawks have averaged just 21.5 points per game, losing all four contests.

Baylor's offense has experienced its own fluctuations. The Bears have scored as many as 55 points in a game this season, but managed just six in their most recent outing, a 17-6 loss to TCU.

Defensively, however, Baylor has been considerably more consistent. The Bears have allowed an average of just 14.7 points per game this season, holding all six opponents to 19 or fewer. Kansas, meanwhile, has surrendered 24 points per game.

If the season averages leave room for debate, a common opponent offers another perspective.

Both Baylor and Kansas have faced Arizona State this season, with decidedly different results. Baylor defeated the Sun Devils 55-19 on October 4, while Kansas fell 24-17 on September 19. Against the same opponent, Baylor scored 38 more points and allowed five fewer.

Comparing teams across a season is rarely straightforward, particularly when the strength of their opponents varies. A shared opponent offers a more direct point of reference, though not a definitive one. In this case, the results suggest that Kansas's slightly higher scoring average doesn't necessarily translate to an advantage over Baylor.

After all, expecting a different result is one thing. Producing one is another.
